Android ver. 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich has been a top of Android user request for OS updating on their smartphone or tablets. From what we read on news, Samsung company have confirmed that some of Samsung Android mobile devices will get an Android Ice Cream Sandwich update. And now Samsung has announced the provision of the update schedule estimates.

Following Samsung mobile devices lists that might be get an update option to ICS :
  • Galaxy S II
  • Samsung Galaxy Notes
  • Galaxy S II LTE and R
  • Galaxy Tab 10.1
  • Tab 8.9
  • Tab 7.7
  • Tab 7.0 Plus.
However in this Android ICS software update, Samsung confirmed that the next release time will vary depending on region and market operators.

We can see that Samsung Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7.0 are not included in update program schedule. On the other side, Samsung Galaxy Nexus S, which is obviously almost identical to the Galaxy S soon will get Android 4.0.

Samsung company is finally responding to news that Galaxy S and Galaxy Tab 7.0 could not be updated to the Android Ice Cream Sandwich, because both of them have Samsung TouchWiz features, a typical Samsung, which has been customized quite complex (including custom widgets, video call and other). In fact, for models that are exclusively bundled with some specific carriers in some countries get mentioned much more in-depth customization (eg digital TV tuner for Brazil ISDB-Tb). From these conditions, Samsung argues that all of the features and last customization will not work properly when upgraded to Android version 4.0 ICS. Beside that hardware specs from Samsung Galaxy S and Tablet 7 are too low in RAM and ROM, which became a point of weakness. So the Android Gingerbread will be remain stagnant.

It seems that many users of Samsung devices will be disappointed. However, for smar user, this is not a serious problem, while many outstanding Android forum have Ice Cream Sandwich (Android v4.0) customization ROM without ruining ToucWiz feature, which must be compatible with some those Samsung devices which are not included in the official list.
