Today, cell phones technology with split keyboards have become not popular since the amazing-designed Nokia 6820 entered the market of cell phones some years ago. The fact is LG decides to fill that emptyness consumer interest for smartphones with that novel form factor, if there is any.

LG company recenlty announced the DoublePlay cell phone that run with Android 2.3 OS and comes with dual touchscreens as well as a split QWERTY keyboard. The DoublePlay smartphone specifications features a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and a 5-megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording.

The technology of touchscreens still consist of a 3.5-inch display on top, which slides out to reveal a 2-inch internal screen. Both screens can be used separately or in tandem with each other, depending on the user’s needs.

LG remains mum on the pricing and availability, it expect it to be unveiled during the 2011 National Texting Championship beginning October 26. Apparently, 13 contestants will use this phone in the competition to become the fastest texter in the US.
